Angels Home Opener: O'Hoppe Grand Slam Hype Train

The baseball schedule during Opening Week has been chaotic, but it is starting to return back to normal. Tonight was the Angels home opener with the super convenient 6:38 PM start time. Well, almost. Even though the broadcast started on time, home opener festivities delayed the first pitch until 7:06 PM. It was nice seeing Jered Weaver back on the field to throw the opening pitch. The grass on the field still had the MLB Opening Week logo which makes the question I had on Saturday about when the opening week ends valid. Did it end Sunday when the new calendar week began or does it last a full seven days or longer? March Madness doesn’t even end in March anymore. Madness.
Tonight’s home opener against the Red Sox brought us some classic Angels baseball. The Angels gave up some runs early on, but everything changed in a crazy sixth inning where Logan O’Hoppe earned his first career grand slam to tie the game. This inning also gave us Anthony Rendon’s first hit of the season. Can you believe he made 21 plate appearances without a hit? The Angels took the lead but were unable to hold onto it.
There were fast food commercials shown tonight. Along with the usual Carl’s Jr. and Jack in the Box commercials, I watched a Wendy’s commercial promoting March Madness in April.
